This was a project of the Provincial Advisory Council on the Status of Women, Newfoundland and Labrador, aimed at encouraging young women to consider non-traditional careers. I believe it was offered to me as I was the only woman filmmaker in St. John’s at the time. I was happy to accept.
The commercials aired simultaneously on CBC and NTV throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The short video and accompanying workbook were presented to students throughout the province by a travelling facilitator.
Down the Road features a young Mark Critch and an uncredited cameo by a young Rick Mercer (see if you can recognize him).
